A Study of Two Pears(-Wallace Stevens)
1
Opusculum paedagogicum
The pears are not viols,
Nudes or bottles.
They resemble nothing else.
2
They are yellow forms
Composed of curves
Bulging toward the base.
They are touched red.
3They are not flat surfaces
Having curved outlines.
They are round
Tapering toward the top.

In the way they are modelled
There are bits of blue.
A hard dry leaf hangs
From the stem.
5The yellow glistens.
It glistens with various yellows,
Citrons, oranges and greens
Flowering over the skin.
6The shadows of the pears
Are blobs on the green cloth.
The pears are not seen
As the observer wills.

When are you going to start selling your lovely wares?
Thanks, Carol. You're too much.
You've captured the pear. In all its pear-ish glory.
I like that line, "flowering over the skin".
Enjoyed all the text that went with these illustrations.
Lovely paintings. Love Carols comment. :) Seems easy but in reality something simple like that is probably hard to do.
I love this post - the poem and the gorgeous watercolors!
Lovely study in pears, Sue. Your pears actually look juicy! :)
You are so dedicated.
And I am so appreciative.
Thanks, all! Pears are a great sketching subject. I have yet to do them justice, but they're good practice.
Count me in as a pear lover.Your watercolors are subtle light and classy. I'll return to see more . . .
