"The sea, that home of marvels" (-Rt Hon William Ewart Gladstone)

The Manatee

I'm partial to the manatee,
which emanates no vanity.
It swims amidst anemones
and hasn't any enemies. (-Jack Prelutsky)

Oysters

are creatures

without any features. (-Jack Prelutsky)

Sardines

Their daily lives are bland,
and if they land—
they're canned. (-Jack Prelutsky)

I love people playing with words.
You have a gift for picking out witty ones.
One of my favorites (can't recall author. male.British)

I wish I liked the human race
I wish I liked its silly face
And when I'm introduced to one
I wish I thought: what jolly fun

Lovely shell paintings. so simple but so right on too. Love your peoms you come up with. I dont know how you match the peoms up with your paintings so well. Do you plan ahead? or just come up with them at the last moment?

Thanks, Willow, Carol and Elizabeth!

Carol, Prelutsky is one of my favorite poets to read to children--they love him, and he's very witty. Lots of fun.

Elizabeth, that's a good one! I don't recognize it, but thanks for sharing it--puts a smile on my face!

Whoops--just saw your note, Cris--thanks! I usually just try to find them after the fact, Cris. I'm really not that well organized, although I probably SHOULD try to plan them in advance!

You do shells well, too, along with everything else. Jack Prelutsky was at a warehouse open house I went to once. I was impressed when, during his break from signing books, he used the time to scurry around looking at what was new in children's books that he'd not seen. He's a collector of children's books, which is impressive unto itself.

Oh, Jane, that must have been fun to see. I like that guy--he's got a great sense of humor and kids love his writings. I would have loved to have seen him.

Great shells--I like how you treated each one as an individual. The poems "match" perfectly: discrete, compact.

The quotes you selected are fine compagnions to your shells! Prelutsky is head on. ;-)
