"Weird-Bird" (-Shel Silverstein)

Birds are flyin’ south for winter

Here’s the Weird-Bird headin’ North;

Wings a-flappin’, beak a-chatterin’,

Cold head bobbin’ back n’ forth.

He says, “It’s not that I like ice,”

Or freezin’ winds and snowy ground.

It’s just sometimes it’s kind of nice

To be the only bird in town.”

(-Shel Silverstein)

This is me! I want to go north! I love that cold northern air. It must be my Scotch Irish DNA. This first fluffy birdie is so cute. Is he a titmouse?

oh how sweet are these paintings. I feel like it is fall already here. Lots of birds have left the area already. sad to me as I dont want to go back into cold cold weather. I am just now getting warm from last winter. :))

Sue,

Many months ago I quickly checked out your blog through a link from parisbreakfasts (plus many others that day). But, since you have been so kind with your recent comments on my new Flickr pages, I thought I needed to really look at your work. Really, really nice stuff here. The one piece that totally blew me away was a post from August 7th. Those yellow lips! I would love them hanging on my wall. Amazing. I will add your blog to my favorites and check in now and again. I am not a daily blogger reader, ask parisbreakfasts...ahem!

Keep painting!!

Oh, Hirschfeld was my idol, so thanks for that. Which makes no sense to your readers.............

Thanks so much, everyone! So kind of you!

Willow, it was indeed a little baby tufted titmouse.

Rick, I'm flattered if you liked some of these. Thanks--and so that any readers WOULD know what you were talking about, I said Rick's work reminded me of Hirschfeld's. Here's a link to Rick's work--have a blast visiting--his work is great!

Hmmm. . . I can see all these birds on something in Zazzle. They are all wonderful, excellent posturing and the blue one is a GLORIOUS blue! I'm an old fan of good old Shel. . . particularly fond of his "The Loser" -- starts with "Mama said I'd lose my head if it wasn't fastened on. . . " SO TRUE!!

Shel Silverstein would have loved your birds, they are exquisite! :-)

Silverstein's poems motivated my oldest to start a writing journal when she was six years old. We hold him dear, so sad he had to leave so young.

These bird paintings are wonderful--each seems to capture the bird's attitude! I so admire bird paintings--and painters!

Merisi, how wonderful that Shel motivated your sister--I used to read his wonderful things to my son, and I always loved his poems.

Laura, thank you for your kind words!
