“Beware the pine tree’s withered branch! Beware the awful avalanche!” (-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

“You can live for years next to a big pine tree,

Honored to have so venerable a neighbor,

Even when it sheds needles all over your flowers or wakes you,

Dropping big cones onto your deck at still of night.”

(-Denise Levertov)

We have alot of huge pines in our garden. Their yellow needles are everywhere right now. I will take half of tomorrow off work, and then I plan to play with the needles (read: gardenwork)

Just one Pine Tree near us, but you would think there were hundreds going by the needles in our back garden, cones are one of my favourite things though, pretty paintings Sue.

I love all your colours oin these pines...my favourite being the second one, with it's warmth in the pine cone and just that extra bit of darkness right underneath the cone.

Thanks, folks!

Cris, I do get worn out! I have to get up at 5am tomorrow to catch a flight to LA. I'll be tired--trust me! ;))

Lovely poem; wish I had written it! I have a small fascination with pine cones myself, and have tried, repeatedly, to paint them. Yours are just lovely.

I love all these different pine cones, but particularly the top one. At our house, it's acorns crashing on the roof and deck which wake us up in the fall...

Yes, I hear you all about the pine cones. Those and the squirrels--our constant companions in NC!
