“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” (-Emily Bronte)

The stripped and shapely
Maple grieves
The ghosts of her
Departed leaves.
The ground is hard,
As hard as stone.
The year is old,
The birds are flown.
And yet the world,
In its distress,
Displays a certain
Loveliness—

(-John Updike)

How beautiful. Love the Updike.
A friend of mine still teases me about the time at Black Mountain when I had to have one particular leaf, when the ground was filled with them everywhere. I was looking at color of course to go with the others in my hand...
Love the nuance in these. They are little poems themselves.

Margaret, are you grieving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leaves, like the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
Do you know this Fall poem of Gerard Manley Hopkins?

I missed this some how. I almost missed some lovely paintings too. Very very good. Are you sure you didnt just glue them on the paper? :))

LOL--I'm quite sure I didn't do that, Cris--my painting of that red one especially is lopsided compared to the real deal!

Beautiful leaves, and I enjoyed them even more than I would have last year, as we are in a new house with NO falling leaf trees....:)

These leaf portraits are great--so bright and crisp, just like fall!

Cassoulet and Laura, thank you! I love this time of year and always feel sad that I miss most of fall at home, so I seek it out on the road.

Your leaf paintings are so simple and lovely. Nothing to distract from the beauty. Nice touch!
