“Come, woo me, woo me; for now I am in a holiday cheer and like enough to consent.” (--Shakespeare)

Joe has an affinity for frogs.

I always say it must have something to do with his French “Gervais” heritage, (he’s now a Jarvis) but any time he sees anything celebrating the frog, he just lights up.

As a result, we have been given numerous gifts with frogs and they seem to be everywhere.

A few years ago, a friend gave us this little ornament (above) of a frog sipping a drink, and I have to admit, I smile every time I get it out of the ornament box. It’s just very apropos. Needless to say, I had to sketch it.

“The frogs wore red suspenders
And the pigs wore purple vests,
As they sang to all the chickens
And the ducks upon their nests.

They croaked and oinked a serenade,
The ducks and chickens sighed,
Then laid enormous spangled eggs
And quacked and clucked with pride.”

Ah frogs...such a metaphorical little creature
I'd love to see that ornament, though the watercolors is a hoot!

Oh I love the poems, just wonderful. Ribbit, ribbit . my grandmother used to tell us tales of the "Jug a rums" down in the pond by her house. ( the noise the bullfrogs make. ) Lots of smiles in a frog.

This is a sweet painting. I too would love to see the ornament. People love to find out something you love to collect so they can keep adding to it. Frogs are fun. We used to hear them a lot around here. The ex neighbors had a wonderful pond but the new ones took it out and now we no longer hear them croak. It was rather comforting too.

I love that ornament! For a while, one of my brothers was giving us frog items, as my husband is French, but he's stopped now.
Your watercolor really gives it character!

Janice, I don't think I ever heard of "Jug a rums" but I love their name!

Cris, I understand how you'd miss the sounds of the frogs. When I visited Bermuda with my son once, the first night, I hated the sound of the tree frogs, and by the time we left, I was nostalgic for them!

Casey, you're legitimate in a need for frogs. ;))

thanks, Carol and Judy!
