“The hardest part of skating is the ice.” (-unknown)

I’m finally home “for good,” (at least for a while) and it’s that time of year…

We’re bringing out comfy blankets for snuggling near a toasty fire in the fireplace.

It’s a time when traditions are dear…

When we head up to the attic to dig out boxes of simple trimmings that make a cozy home.

I enjoy pulling out the things we’ve collected over the years,

gifts from friends and family,

things we’ve made, and things that were made for us,

and the simple things that just make our house feel like a home: grandma's holiday tablecloth and pretty flowers and greens...

Despite the current dismal news reports over economic woes, and all the myriad troubles that seem to be bubbling up and rife throughout the world, I want to hold onto the beautiful things we do have in life: not so much the material things we have, but the people, places and memories we hold dear. Happy Holidays, all!

Before the ice is in the pools,
Before the skaters go,
Or any cheek at nightfall
Is tarnished by the snow,
Before the fields have finished,
Before the Christmas tree,
Wonder upon wonder
Will arrive to me!

(- Emily Dickinson)

Oh I LOVE the Ice Skates painting. It's so charming. I still have my ice skates from when I was a kid.
Your house looks lovely. You were busy since getting home. Now to enjoy it all at home. Welcome home. You were missed. :)

WOWZA!
Is your tree really already up?
Or is that last year's? Still all looks lovely and sweet...
Can you put your schedule up online so we can get ready for the next takeoff?
I need dates!
I'm missing you already
Anticipatory missing :)

You are THE Christmas goddess! I have one ornament up and one string of lights sort of hanging on something- I would love to have your enthusiasm, I would!
Your Christmas home is absolutely stunning- beautiful.

Oh I love all these photos of your pretty decorations, Sue. We're going to my son's house for Christmas this year so we're skipping the tree. My husband's thrilled but it's a little weird to me and I miss the heavenly scent of Noble fir. I did buy an outside wreath, but that's it so far. Now I'm starting to feel deprived, but doll clothes beckon...

So happy that you are home safe...
your decorations are lovely, sparkling and very welcoming.
Love you ice skates sketch...reminds me of my white skates with their not-so-pc rabbit fur cuffs that I had as a young girl in France...wish I had them now to skate on my frozen ponds in my yard...lol...
Bisous...

LOVE your Christmas tree! --it's sooooo pretty! May I use your idea of hanging ornaments from the chandelier?--love those reindeer!!!

Yes, Carol--the tree is up. I am still doing stuff around the house--I like making it nice around the holidays. Still have to do baking, too.

Judy, I've put things on the chandeliers every year--sometimes I vary it, but I have a reindeer collection of ornaments, and I always find somewhere for them. The last few years, I've had some on the chandelier. I love them. ;))

Terrie, the skates you had when you were young sound pretty! feminine!

happy holidays, all.
