This time of year always calls to mind Joni Mitchell’s song “River” for me.
The craziness of the holiday madness with the expectations and commitments foisted upon all of us can be overwhelming. So far, I'm being good this year, and trying to keep the insanity to a minimum….
“It’s comin' on Christmas
They’re cuttin’ down trees
They’re puttin’ up reindeer
And singin’ songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on…
But it don’t snow here, y’ know--
It stays pretty green;
I’m gonna' make a lot o' money
Then I’m gonna' quit this crazy scene...
Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on...
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly...
I wish I had a river I could skate away on…”
(-Joni)
“Give your stress wings and let it fly away” (-Carin Hartness)

Really love that particular watercolor technique. It's crazy around here. Mr. Bob is in his holiday depression, after doing pretty well for a couple or three years in a row.
I love all your ornament pictures on the side. Ornaments are special memories that we take out and savor once a year.
Are these new? Love em :)
Another lovely painting & quotes.
Such a lovely painting, and I think I need to down load that song Now! (or head to the river, but it is not frozen)
You win my prize for the best holiday decoration on a painting blog. Beautiful and evocative (and well-lit, too). Thanks for the pleasure.
Your watercolors are charming and unique. I have to go look through more of your posts now!

I love that song, AND the orange/blue combo in this painting!
Ditto from me, for the spot on song and your beautiful image.
I dare anyone to visit your blog and not get in the Christmas spirit. I am breaking out my Joni Mitchells, too! Your whole blog is simply a feast for my senses. Thank you.

Thank you, everyone!
Jane, I'm sorry if Bob is feeling down--I think it's fairly common this time of year. There's a lot of pressure around the holidays, I think...
Suzanne, thanks--we enjoy our Christmas fixing...it's kind of a ritual for us.
Lisa, thank you so much--I was listening to Joni Mitchell today, too. Had her on my iPod. And thanks for visiting!
Fantastic shapes, textures, and composition. You have such an eye.
Where in NC are you? 'Cause I'm in NC too. Please send me email via my blog at tintsandhues.blogspot.com.
Us NC artists need to stick together!
Thanks, Laura and Jan. Jan, I'll send you a note via your blog! Thanks for visiting.
