“People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.” (-Logan Pearsall Smith)

I’ve definitely been doing lots of reading recently,…

…but it hasn’t been books…

it’s been graduate school applications…

…lots and lots of graduate school applications.

February 1st was the deadline for our applicants, and so for the past few month, and the next month, I’ll be busy helping to read and evaluate applications of prospective students for our programs, while they continue to tumble in and stack up higher in piles…so I’m holed up, busy, and trying to get to them all…

Lots of sitting…

And lots of reading…

“The more that you read,

The more things you will know.

The more that you learn

The more places you’ll go.”

(-Dr Seuss)

What chutzpah,
I love it! :-)

May your eyes found some lovely writing among those applications!
(I have never stopped wondering how much value these essays have - from what I have seen so many students get so much help, the essay in no way reflects their abilities.)

It's much more than just an essay, Merisi--GRE's, GMAT scores for some, recommendations, resume, etc...

They take quite a long time to read each one.

(and also undergrad college transcripts, overseas travel experience, work experience, etc, etc...)

Lovely watercolor. How you do them when you have all that to read I dont know. But glad you still are.
Here's to the deserving ones that get picked.

Carol, I think I'm gonna' have to send yours back for "additional review." I told them there were a lot of red flags for you! ;))

Cris, I did this one really quickly so it was a good break last night after I'd read a ton of them over the weekend.

I often say I'm nearly as happy just reading about things as I would be actually doing them! :-) Something I want you to know - I signed up to have your blog emailed to me, but it never has been emailed. So I tried to sign up again and the computer tells me I'm already signed up. Can you "sun-sign" me so I can try again?

Jeanette, I can try to look at my subscription thingie--to be perfectly honest, I'm a total loser when it comes to that thing--I have no clue how to do it! Others have told me similar things and I have no earthly idea how to make it work. I'll try! Thanks for thinking of it...

Good luck with all the applications!

Yes, Sue, please do turn on your live feed! That way you'll be on my blogroll, too! Go to your dashboard, then click on settings, then "site feed". Make sure they are all set to "full".

It IS set that way, Willow. I've tried everything. I appreciate your efforts--I have tried a million things and who knows why it's not working.

Oh dear. Those stacks of folders remind me of the stacks of bluebooks I used to have to get through. After a few dozen the line between B minus and C plus would blur ... making a hard job even more impossible to do conscientiously! Sometimes I wanted to toss them all down the stairs and assign them a grade according to which step they landed on. I never it though--I swear!!

Laura, I taught and I can remember that same feeling. I never did either, but I felt like doing it sometimes!
