“…you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens” (-e.e. cummings)

This weekend was the first time in quite a while that I had some moments to breathe. Since it was beautifully warm and balmy, I spent hours in the garden, cleaning, weeding, trimming things back, and just in general getting things ready for spring.

I went to my favorite nursery, just to enjoy what was there, but also to pick out some pretty things for a friend’s birthday.

The place just does my heart good: I love its gurgling fountains, glorious urns, elegant topiaries, and rich, colorful flowers bursting out of baskets and pottery.

I left thinking that spring is definitely on its way. ..

I love this springy post, Sue! I need to get outside and do some cleaning up, as well~! I just got a pack of new garden gloves, so that should lure me to the task.

Oh how lovely that the weather is warm where you are. It's still pretty cold here in Ireland. I love the sort of day you've just had. We have to go a long way to find a garden centre. It's something I miss from theUK.

I day spent at the nursery is always a good day. And it inspired you to do some very lovely paintings, too!

Gorgeous, gorgeous post and illustrations. Thank you for bringing a little spring to this corner-of-the-still-snow-covered world.

Luscious, Sue! It's cold and rainy here, but spending time at the nursery is a good way to raise my spirits - or I can just check your bright and cheery illustrations!

Beautiful spring post, Sue! Your artwork is showing the inspiration of it all - so joyous and energetic! I've been doing much the same ... now we're finally going to get some much needed rain for all the bloomin' stuff!

Beautiful paintings, Sue--I love the blues in the top one--and the "theme" of all. I can't wait for our local nurseries to open ... every year I want to buy volumes of forsythia--perhaps this year I won't resist!

Beautiful paintings, Sue. Spring is such an amazing season. A wonderful gift after the long winter. In Maine I swear you can hear things grow. I am a little sad about missing it this year.

Enjoy—Jennifer
