I went to the link to read about the project and was amazed at the scope of it! Am I to understand that you pay $25 to be in the project? Is that right? It seems worth the price to be involved. I am not quite sure I understand all the details...the books go around the country? Who would do this? Is someone volunteering to do this? Is it sponsored by someone?

Quite amazing. Have you done this before? Are you paying for any of the other side things like posters or digit components? Just curious. Will you keep us up to date on the blog of how you are progressing and some of the pages you are submitting?

I am anxious to hear more about it.

Oh also...this sweet little bird.
Did you do him on a hot press paper?
He looks like his paint is pooled so beautifully like hot press paper often suggests.

Ginny, it's the Art House Co-Op that sends these books all over the country on tour, and then once they've done, they will all be housed permanently at the Brooklyn Art Library. How cool is this?

Yes--$25 is the entry and they send you a moleskine book to fill, and you select a "theme" to include in your work. I did pay for the digitizing so it can be seen online, too, 'cause I want to see others as well. I just think it sounds like fun. I have seen similar projects and always wanted to do one, but was afraid I wouldn't have time, but if I can get this soon, I can start it before I head out on the road and then just bring it along with me once I have to start traveling. I'll try to write about it over the next months again, and tell you whatever I learn.

You should give it a go! I know a number of people who are going to do it as well, and my son is, too!

ps
The bird was painted on YUPO and it was fun--the surface is interesting to paint on...

This sounds like a fun project for you. What will your Son do? Does he draw and paint or write? How long do you have to do this project? Looks like fun. Just perfect for you.

Thanks, people!

Cris, the project is over in terms of creating the book once you mail in the book--I think it's mid-January. Then, in March, they take all the books they receive and take them on the road throughout the USA. Then, once the "tour" is over, they house the books permanently in the Brooklyn Art Library. They barcode each sketchbook so that you can tell each time someone looks through it, which is cool!

ps
I forgot--Eric is very artistic, Cris-he paints and draws etc, and is an excellent photographer, but for this, I think he's going to do a faces project.

The journal project sounds like so much fun. I bookmarked the site. I'm really interested in seeing what everyone does.

Love the way you painted the bird.

Thank you, Steviewren,-- you should do it, too! I'm excited to see what others do, too!

Great idea, Sue. I have considered this project before but life always gets in the way...actually I get in my own way! I know the sketchbook and the paper is quite thin. What do you plan to use as a medium? Your watercolors are so beautiful! Are you going to try to use them in the sketchbook?

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Love your Yupo bird.

Hi, Jennifer--I could tell from looking at the website that the pages look almost transparent, which is not good for watercolors, but I may still use 'em and try to just have a light touch. I sketch in the grid-lined moleskines and those are very thin, too. It'll keep me loose, anyway, to know that! It'll be fun, anyway. I'll consider it a challenge! You should do it!
