About Beets

About Beets
(A Very True Story)

I'd rather eat snails with some raw lizard tails!
I'd rather eat soap scum and witches' toenails!
I'd rather eat fungus, black and humungous,
In fact, I'm sure I would rather eat fungus!
I'd rather eat bugs and the shells of three crabs,
Sticky alien brains all covered in scabs!
I'd rather eat rocks in a giant brown box!
I'd rather eat chickens that have chicken pox!
I'd rather eat cacti that make me scream 'OUCH!'
I'd rather eat hairballs from under the couch!
I'd rather eat bread that has turned grossly green,
Or the biggest earthworm that you've ever seen!
I'd rather eat earwax and slimy eel skin,
I wish that the church would say 'BEETS are a SIN!'
I'd rather eat garbage, a cockroach, or TEN...

Than to EVER-EVER eat BEETS Again!
(from the book A Woolly Mammoth on Amelia Street by Todd Michael St Pierre)
AS FOR ME:
I personally LOVE beets: especially sliced in a salad of fresh farm greens, with orange segments, spiced pecans, and thin red onion slices, with feta cheese or a nice chevre and a light vinaigrette.

Oh, I love beets, too, in fact, you've given me a craving! These are fabulous. They look almost 3-D!! Nice!

Thanks, Willow. I have a really good borscht recipe I haven't made in years that I might just have to get out this winter...

I love them too and I especially love your big fat beautiful painted beets. Must try your recipe. My latest verison was dressed with olive oil and pomegranate juice.

Love the painting.
Love the poem.
Can't stand the vegetable. Beets, coconuts and pigs' ears are on my very short of list of things I don't eat. Give me string beans and chcolate any time.

Karen, that's funny. I think the only food I really don't like is turnips--I think it's the smell and texture.

Stunning use of paint. I'm just about to have a salad for my dinner. I'll just run and open a can!

If I did not love beets already, I surely would want to after seeing your beautiful paintings! Gorgeous. :-)

Very funny poem, thank you for the smile!
Your favorite way to eat beets sounds scrumptious, must try it. I love sliced roasted beets in red vinegar, olive oil, a bit of salt, with freshly grated horseradish. Truth is, though, that most of the times I simply make a snack out of the roasted beets, eating them like I would an apple. ;-)

I love them, too, Merisi. Can't wait to be home to cook in my own kitchen again!

Just admiring your lovely, fresh Yupo work. I can't seem to tame the beast, even though it keeps enticing me to. Have decided to try everything I have learned on the net from artists and see if I can make head or tail of Yupo.
