"In numbers warmly pure and sweetly strong" (--Billy Collins)

There are just way too many numbers we have to keep track of in our lives:

Twelve months in a year;
sixteen oz. in a lb;
seven notes in a diatonic scale;
one "X" in a game of Scrabble;
eight slices in a pizza;
le 6' ieme arrondissement;
$2.69/gallon of gas;
four Dove bars in a box;
channel 23 for HBO;
2 minutes and 30 seconds to reheat a dish in the microwave;
six degrees of separation;
Mozart's Clarinet concerto in A Major, K 622...

"...and a partridge in a pear tree."

(please excuse the awful photo on the road as usual)

And how about the numbers I just can't seem to forget? My 4th grade best friend's telephone number, my high school locker combination, my Girl Scout troop number... I know I could remember all the important numbers if I could only make room for them by forgetting the ones I don't need any more!

I absolutely love the bird and all the colours in it. I still remember a phone number of a friends from when I was 10 year old. I am now 48 and have no contact with the friend. I don't know why it sticks there as I haven't needed it.

Not to mention computer passwords (usually have #'s), dates of peoples b'days, drs. appts, etc. numbers get me every time. Hope your travel on the road is going well, snowing here in Jersey, hope that isn't translating to snow up north :) Love, Claudia

For me in the fall, it's millions of numbers to keep track of: room numbers in different hotels every single night; times for meetings and sessions at every single school I visit; license plates on rental cars, for signing in at hotels; exits off highways driving from place to place, etc, etc, etc.

Claudia, yikes-- no snow yet. You do seem to get a lot of the white stuff there! I hope it detours and misses me on this trip!
