"The key to good eavesdropping is not getting caught." (--Lemony Snicket)

Influenced by two of my favorite bloggers, Chris Bonney, of "What I Saw" fame, and Walt Taylor, eavesdropper extraordinaire from "Crackskull Bob," I dutifully noted conversations around me today.

Students said:
"I'm not a swiss cheese person."
"Well, I'm not a sourdough person, either."

"I know this goes out to the ground, but this is not the ground floor.  It's upstairs."

"Our WalMart is so cool: it has the cutest little windmills on top of the roof."

"No; I didn't know the material:  I just went 'eeny, meeny, miny, mo.'"

"Hello!  You don't SING a candy-gram."

"I don't want to listen to that.  Christmas isn't my thing."

"Duke--that's in Pennsylvania, right?"

"Conversation should touch everything, but concern itself with nothing."  (--Oscar Wilde)

(Joe sent me an email with photos of my pansies and violas, to reassure me that they're surviving without me.  I couldn't help smile and think they looked like little peoples' faces.)

Love those beautiful pansies!

Also like the comment about the ground floor being upstairs! My kinda gal—had to be a gal, just had to be!

Thanks! Claudia, I'm terrible--I always listen to snippets of conversations, but I don't usually write 'em down.

Laure, I cannot tell a lie--it was a gal. She was serious about it, too. I found myself looking up, thinking, well, if they go out the door up there, they're gonna' land pretty hard!

I love the painted pansies. I just opened an old book to have little pansies fall out I had forgotten I was pressing. A fun find.

Oh, I wish I had written this blog entry! I've long treasured snippets of conversations and at one time thought it would be fun to write a whole book of what I heard as shoppers passed by the front door of my store. Pansies are a favorite.

Thanks, Cris and Jane.

Oh, Jane--with your wonderful sense of humor, I'm sure you could do some hilarious snippets of conversations. Go for it! Surely "the Manor" would be rife with opportunities!
