"The precursor of the mirror is the mother's face" (--DW Winnicott)

Last night the temps got very cold and we had a frost.  The first thing I did in the morning was to head out and investigate our tulips!

Like a nervous mother, I had to see if they'd survived the cold.

One or two of them looked a little bit worse for wear, bent over in a weary posture, but for the most part, they were standing tall and still looked colorful and cheery.

So, does this mean I'm a bad mom for not blanketing them all last night?

I wonder.

"Sweater, n:  Garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly."

Lovely paintings. I know the feeling when the frost came.. or snow came.. and got my daffodils, I was mad at myself for not covering them, but after a day they stood right back up. Amazing actually.

Thanks, all. It's gotten cold again this evening--I'm hoping all the plants do ok!

There is something special about the way you mix pigment and water. I don't know anyone else who has this facility. It's a beautiful style.

I love the way you paint tulips. You've caught the essence of the flowers, not so heavy and dense like mine. I'm glad I've found your blog, through Laura's.

Thanks, quirky and Jo--I honestly think what you're seeing is the result of the Yupo--it's filmy and makes things interesting looking.

You're kind--thanks for visiting and commenting.

Jo, I'll have to look for your work! Nice to "meet" you!
