"Theories pass. The frog remains." (--Jean Rostand)

Some of our MEM (Master of Environmental Management) students here at Duke traveled as a class over their recent spring break to the wilds of the Amazon.  They've posted their photos and taken me there vicariously, and I drooled over spectacular images of mountain terrains,  mile-long waterfalls, ancient ruins, and all sorts of exotic flora and fauna.

One of our students, Davie Nguyen,  had a few photos of frogs that just made me smile immediately.   I told Davie he's got a great eye--his photos were just terrific.   This little guy captured my heart, clasping onto this curling leaf out there.    Davie told me it was ok to sketch him, so I did last night.

I showed my finished sketch to Joe, who laughed, and said, "I didn't see him right away!"  to which I replied, "Well, of course not; he's camouflaged!"

"Fifty flippant frogs walked by on flippered feet
And with their slime
They made the time unnaturally fleet."  (--Unknown)

What a cute comment to Joe. I didnt see him at first either until I read your comment to him. Then it clicked into place. He is camouflaged and he is cute.

I also missed him at first, then saw him once I adjusted my viewing. I also LOVE yesterdays blue pansy image - it's really beautiful. XO Claudia

I love frogs and I LOVE your painting. There is something different about the way you use watercolour and it fascinates me :0)

I didn't see him at first either. I saw his eye but the rest took me a bit. What fun and what a terrific frog picture.

Thanks, everyone! He was fun to sketch.

Candy, I liked that little quote, too--thanks!

Sandra, I think what you're noticing in these watercolor sketches is the Yupo I'm painting on--I'm addicted to the stuff--it really helps me stay looser, which I desperately need practice doing.
