"This must be Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays." (-Douglas Adams)

I've taken tons of photos of our camellias blooming, and they're very pretty, so I should work through them all to try to sketch the different varieties.     Now, by saying that, of course, you realize that  I am procrastinating from having to attempt daffodils again this year!

Daffodils are such cheerful, pretty flowers, but they're yellow...or white and yellow...colors that are very hard in watercolor painting.   Yellows come across looking flat.   And white...well, there is no white, excepting for the white of the paper itself, and that means lots of delicate shades and negative shapes to imply the image.   It's imperative with daffodils that you create that beautiful trumpet shape, so there you have it!  I know I will have at them again this year, but every year, I try, and every year, I laugh and realize that I haven't quite gotten there yet.

We'll see...

Have a great Thursday!
(I haven't quite gotten the hang of them either.)

Keep on trying. As for Thursdays, that's another thing.

Is this painting on Yupo? You get the most lovely effects!

I will keep on trying, Chris. (on daffodils and Thursdays.)

Gwendolyn, thank you so much! Yes--this is Yupo. I am totally addicted to this stuff. I have several pads I'm working through. I do need to get back to w/c paper: I have thought about doing posts of the same subject on different surfaces, to highlight differences. Sometime I will...

Ha!
Your gorge photos of the daffs inspired me to buy some and I'm painting them now!
I think they are about positive-negative shapes engaging with the background.
The colors - well mingle it bien sur!
"Jump in Sue.
The waters fine", she said precipitiously..
We'll see how I fare...ahem

Oh, good,Carol--can't wait to see what you come up with. Something spectacular, I have no doubt. You'll either inspire me or intimidate me that much more. I'll have to dive right in, I guess.

The great thing about Thursdays is that Friday follows close on its heels! Lovely painting.

Just the thought of painbting daffodils makes me cringe! If I had known that one day, I would attempt to paint my garden flowers, I would NEVER have planted daffodils! :-)

Ohhh, you all, please keep trying! Daffodils are my favorite flower. I can't get enough of 'em. :)

Umm, those camellias are so elegant and juicy all at once, an effect that you seem to achieve so easily... but I know how difficult it is! Happy spring, dear Sue!

These are beautiful - I love your watercolours. Maybe you should try just the daffodils in a different medium? Maybe coloured pencils :0)

Thanks, everyone. This weekend, I'm going to have a go at daffodils in watercolor. Sandra, I don't know how to do any other medium, so it's w/c or nothing! Hahaaa! I'm fairly limited here. Thanks for the suggestion. If I could do something else, I might, but I can barely do this!
