"Without ice cream, there would be darkness and chaos" (--Don Kardong)

Saturday was a fairly cool spring day in North Carolina, but it was a great day to head to the Sugarland Bakery in Chapel Hill with the local sketch group.  I met  Laura Frankstone  at her place, and we zipped off to this wonderland of sweets on Franklin St.

Not too many local sketchers showed, but we felt obliged to do our part, and immediately sampled some of the showcased gelatos.   I settled on a delectable dish of the Dulce de Leche, always a big fave of mine, and I was not disappointed.  Yes, my root canal-ed tooth has finally settled down enough to indulge.  (I know--these forays into the land of sweets are probably the reason I'm dealing with a root canal to begin with; what can I say.)  Hey--at least I took pains to eat it on the other side of my mouth!

My eyes lit on a counter with a sample wedding cake and a peacock perched above the cake.  (My scan here is a bit wonky and tilted.)   I really hope you'll take a look at whatever Laura winds up posting, because her sketches, as always,  were amazing.   Thanks for a fun afternoon, Laura!

Well goodness.. your comment box would let me on for the longest time...How fun to go sketch at this lovely place. I would have had to endulge on something too. One cant go sit and look without eating SOMETHING. :) This is lovely. I love peacocks. What a fun day you had. I will go check out Laura too.

Sounds like a fun place to go sketching. Oooh, root canals! My daughter tells me they are no big deal but I hear from too many people that they are.

Nice drawing. The peacock looks like he's debating between two items.

Wow, your cake sketch is delicious! Looks a lot better than the original ;D. I just posted my sketches, btw. Fun as always to see the differences!

Love the quote. Life without ice cream would be a life not worth living! Pretty flowers at the top, too. XO Claudia

What a lovely way to get a sketch group started - the no-show-ers missed out! Love the sugary colours in your sketch, and completely agree with the quote!

Love the quote about ice cream and your painting of the wedding cake!

Good to hear that you are feeling better after the root canal surgery. Good luck with your next visit!

I indulged in the first ice cream of the season (for me, not for the gelaterias around here). I had a small cone with three different flavors, hazelnut, coconut and blueberry. Oh so delicious! :)

How clever of you to eat the ice cream on the 'good' side of your mouth...
I hope you had a toothbrush along...ahem

Perfect locale in which to sketch. As to the Ben Cohen quotation.......I feel that way about waitresses. I prefer to see them well-rounded.
